Tillicoultry - Retaining wall built with shallow curve, and a set of steps

We were asked to build a retaining wall in this steeply sloping garden as the client wanted more planting space. The wall measures 20m long by 0.85m high, is built with a slight curve, and is finished with a flat top. The stone was chosen to match the existing blockwork in the garden.

In addition to the wall, a set of steps was built to provide an interesting, visual feature and to allow access to the terrace behind.

At the time the photographs were taken, the soil backfilling was still to be done.

The stone used is Alston Stone, supplied by Border Aggregates in Kelso.
