Carlops - stone steps, paths and retaining walls

We were asked to add to some existing walling work in the garden of this large house 20 miles south of Edinburgh. The client had an established garden of terraces created with rough sandstone from the Hutton Stone Co. in Berwickshire.

Our job was to extend the work already carried out by adding in two sets of stone steps, linking these with a rough stone path with edging and in a separate part of the garden build a retaining wall.

The retaining wall measured 23m by 1m high rising to 1.4m at the highest point. As added features, an old postbox was built into the retaining wall, and alpine plants placed in between the stones.

Wallers - Richard Love and Jason Hoffman.

Stone supplier - Hutton Stone - see links page for contact details.
